A physicist by training Günter Nooke is a former East German civil rights activist and German politician. He was German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s personal envoy to Africa from 2010 up until 2021 and Africa Advisor of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) from 2014 to 2021. Prior to that, he was the German Government’s Commissioner for Human Rights Policy and Humanitarian Aid. Nooke was a member of the German Bundestag from 1998 to 2005. From 1995 to 1998, he worked as a project manager/director in the Office for the Rehabilitation of Lignite Mines in East Germany.  Using his rich experience he advises the CHB group in the field of international relations.
